Common Questions
- Question: Is listening important or speaking important?
Both are equally important.
You need to learn to be a good
listener to be a good speaker.
- Question: How will we be evaluated?
Through participation and testing assessment.
- How can we prepare for the Mid-term & Final exams?
There are many things.
Most important is: Practice, practice SPEAKING!
The other things I will tell you in class.
- How was the first class?
Everyone in the class needs to speak more – In English!
- What kinds/types of tests?
There will be many different kinds of testing.
You will not always know when you are being tested.
There are also surprise quizzes.
- Question: What is the (best) way to increase English speaking ability?
You need to practice, try, practice & try again.
- How much homework will you give us?
A lot of little things.
However, it will be always different.
Sometimes it is writing, sometimes it is listening and sometimes it is conversation practice.
- I want know difference between "hi" and "hello".
They are the same, but “hi” is sometimes
more casual than “hello”.
Common Errors
- Don’t call me “Teacher”.
Usually only little children say “Teacher”.
USE a person's name when you talk to them, or "sir" or "miss" or "ma'am" if you do not know their names.
- Remember to use Capital Letters at the beginning
of sentences & for proper names.
- Use the right punctuation at the end and
in the middle of sentences.
- DON’T start written sentences with a conjunction. (and, but, so, or, because…etc.)
- The symbol '#' is not a 'sharp' except in music terms.
Many of my students mistake the '#' for a sharp, but that is only in music.
In English the '#' symbol means 'number'.
